Dear dreamers, intrepid travellers, lovers of life and adventurers and most of all those photographers who want to get out of their comfort zone and shake up their photography – I developed this workshop thinking of you.
Naples was my first love. It was the place in Italy that first set my photographer’s heart on fire. Naples is raw, emotional, fast, voluptuous, confronting and generous.
I created my first photographic story in Naples that was published in Marie Claire at the beginning of my photography journey. It is the place I have always returned to, to feel alive, to feel wonderment, to be connected to life and people and to witness an Italy like no other.
It’s a little bit Cuban, a little bit Asian and a whole lot Italian and was the subject of my most recent book published by Penguin Australia with author Lisa Clifford, Naples, A Way of Love.
There is no other Italian city I have been to where I felt I have arrived on time! Where I wasn’t too late, where a life so rich is happening before my eyes without busloads of tourists and guides in my way.
Naples is authentic and emotional and this is the basis of what I want to teach in this 5-day workshop. My aim is to teach you how to create travel images that are full of life, that ‘tear at your heart strings’, make people stop and wonder, think and feel when they see your photography whether it be happiness, laughter, sadness or shock, any emotion that will make them remember your work long after they have seen it.
Along with an experienced photographer we will teach you how to use light, shoot movement, connect with people, tell a story, dig deep into your personal story to create the images you have always desired. All whilst I show you my favourite corners of Naples.
WHAT’S IN STORE FOR YOU:
TUITION: 5 days of tuition in the heart of historic Naples. Lessons will be held at Decumani Hotel de Charme with daily critiquing of participants work. We will spend at least half the day out on the streets shooting.
During the 5 days we will cover different themes of travel photography, concentrating on how to create powerful images full of emotion and take your photography and storytelling to a new level.
You will be instructed by Carla Coulson and assisted by an experienced photographer.
INCLUDES: 5 lunches in local trattorias, pizzerias and cafes, 2 dinners on first and last nights, coffee break during classroom lessons and all tuition.
COURSE BEGINS: 2pm Thursday 15th September 2016 and finishes 3pm 20th September 2016
MAXIMUM: 10 participants
DOESN’T INCLUDE: flights, hotels and transfers.
We recommend staying at Palazzo Decumani or Decumani Hotel De Charme (not the same place). These are only 8 mins apart and located in the heart of the historic centre where you will be shooting daily. All lessons will be held at Decumani Hotel de Charme. Please feel free to book your own accomodation via Airbnb, or a hotel that suis your budget.

MINIMUM COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
You need to be comfortable with a manual SLR camera and understand F-Stops, ISO’s and shutter speed. If you aren’t currently using your camera on manual you have time to take a course locally where you are currently based so that you can join us on this fabulous trip.
You need to have access to a SLR digital camera and a lap top computer and an external hard disk to back-up your work.
Be in good shape and use to walking up to 5 kilometers a day.
Each participant must have their own travel insurance with camera and lenses covered and we will need a copy of your insurance two weeks prior to the start of the course.
IDEAL FOR:
Amateur photographers male and female, intrepid travellers who love to travel and want to explore a unique Italian city and who are proficient with the basics of photography yet would like to take their travel photos to a new level.
