There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you

Way back in 2003 I had the chance of having my photos of Naples published in Marie Claire but there was just one HUGE problem, the magazine wanted something written to go with the photos and they asked me if I could write something? Me!!!!

I rang a journalist friend in a panic as I was desperate to have my photos published and she sent me to a writing course in Bondi Junction that changed my life. Literally!

That writing course opened a world of words that I never believed I had the capacity to put down on paper and by being able to write (even in the most basic terms) it allowed me to have my first article published and enabled me a year later to publish Italian Joy.

I would never consider myself a ‘real’ writer (hey still don’t know where to put the comma’s) although there was a time when I was as equally in love with writing as I was with photography but there is a certain joy in being able to put down in words what you are feeling on any given day and mould it into a story.

Over the years I have had the privilege of working side by side with ‘real’ writers and journalists whose craft are words, the perfect word.

One such writer is Lisa Clifford and I have had the pleasure of working with Lisa over the past year and seeing how she works close up was such a treat. Lisa is never satisfied with any old sentence it has to encompass

Lisa is the author of Death in the Mountains and The Promise and the wonderful Lisa is holding a writer’s workshop in her husband’s native Casentino in the hills above Florence this spring.

When I lived in Florence Lisa kindly invited me for a weekend in the mountains and within 30 minutes we were in a magical world far-away from Florence with clean air, beautiful trees and old stone houses. It was Tuscany without the tourists..

Lisa and James Friel  are holding a workshop in beautiful Casentino this June along with 4 guest authors and if you have any friends or loved ones that dream of having a book published or want to learn how to craft a story this could be the perfect opportunity to see real Tuscany and work with talented writers.
